New York Gynecomastia

The costs of having male breast reduction surgery are in the thousands of Dollars, but if you want a New York Gynecomastia surgeon to operate on you, the chances are that this will go into the tens of thousands. Gynecomastia is the name given to the condition that causes men to develop female like breasts. There are many underlying diseases that can cause this condition, and sometimes the cause is unknown. In fact, in more than 25 percent of cases, the Gynecomastia cause cannot be established.

When you opt for surgery in this regard, your doctor will normally have tried other treatment methods first. They will try to find out if the cause of your Gynecomastia is hormone related (due to a lack of androgen, the male hormone, in the body and an increase of estrogen, the female hormone), or if there is a kidney disease or hyperthyroidism. If all these avenues have been exhausted and all attempts at hormone treatment and others are not working, then surgery is recommended.

During this surgery, the plastic surgeon will work to remove all of the excess breast tissue in the chest area as well as the glands, and if needed, the excess skin. This excess skin will only form in the more severe cases (grade 3), and is necessary to remove, otherwise the skin will merely hang after surgery. In many instances a New York Gynecomastia plastic surgeon will charge up to $10 000 or more for this procedure, but this does of course depend on the experience of the surgeon, and the extent of the male breast reduction. If it is a grade 3 case, entire breast or chest reshaping may be required, which will of course take longer and cost more.

Before you go for surgery, your doctor should do the following tests to rule out any other disease that might be prevalent: a mammogram, kidney function studies, liver function studies, blood hormone level tests, and a breast ultrasound. Sometimes the breast enlargement can occur in one side only, and in this case, even in puberty, surgery might be recommended to ensure the correct shape of the breasts.
